The Indo-Pacific region is transforming as the world’s centre of gravity shifts from west east. It is becoming clear that the region’s future will differ greatly from its past, but significant uncertainty remains regarding the path forward. Unfortunately, there is no obvious method to determine how geopolitics will evolve in the next few decades, but this short essay describes several possible regional orders and attempts to identify the major variables that will determine the region’s path.
