Dr Makumi Mwagiru

Prof. Makumi Mwagiru, PhD, MA, LL.B, is Professor of Diplomacy and National Security at the University of Nairobi, where he was previously Director of the Institute for Diplomacy and International Studies.

Prof Mwagiru has been a visiting professor at universities in Ghana, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania, and is member of the International Advisory Board at the Policy Research Institute of the African Studies Association of India. He has published extensively on foreign policy and diplomacy, conflict studies, crisis management, international law, international mediation, national and international security, and grand strategy, including the books Policy and Strategy in National Security: contexts, perspectives, and challenges in East Africa, and Diplomatic, Security and Conflict: The Three Anthems and Other Essays. He has been a member of bodies such as the African International Studies Association, African Political Studies Association and the International Council for Conflict Resolution (Carter Centre). He consults to Government and to regional institutions such as the African Union, East African Community, Common Market for Eastern and southern Africa, and the European Union.
