Mick Ryan spent 35 years in the Australian Army and had the honour of commanding

soldiers at troop, squadron, regiment, task force and brigade levels before retiring in 2022

and deployed to Iraq, East Timor and Afghanistan. He has a long-standing interest in

military history and strategy, advanced technologies, organizational innovation, and

adaptation theory. Mick is the author of three books: War Transformed in 2022, White Sun

War: The Campaign for Taiwan, in 2023 and The War for Ukrainein 2024.

Mick is currently the inaugural Senior Fellow for Military Studies at the Lowy Institute in

Sydney, and an adjunct fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in

Washington DC. He is also a strategic advisor to U.S. and Australian companies in the

national security sector.
